Most food waste doesn't happen on farms. It happens at the end of the chain, in shops, kitchens and homes, with food that was fit to eat the entire time. That's the part a phone and a map can actually change.

How we count.
We'd rather publish a smaller number we can defend than a bigger one we can't. Here is exactly what our figures mean.
One bag counts as one meal
A Surprise Bag usually holds more than a single portion. We still count it as one rescued meal.
2.5 kg CO₂e per rescued meal
We apply the widely used estimate of 2.5 kg CO₂e avoided per meal, covering production, transport, storage and disposal.
Only completed pickups count
Reservations that are never collected are excluded from every figure we publish, including this page.
These are estimates, not measurements. They are meant to convey scale and direction. They are not certified carbon accounting, and we'll say so every time we quote them.
